Coat & Hair

All ready to go!!!

First you may need a preset I made that is perfect for the coat, you can find it here

Download it and save in your EP!

Lets begin!

Select the big part of the coat and apply the preset, leave it as 2D, convert to path to image so we can add to it a soft edge that is available when sellecting the pick tool. Also we need to darken them and give them contrast, the settings are below.

Lets give it a realistic look and clone some fur so the hand has the effect as if it were sunk into the fluffy fur, get the idea? Below are the 2 places I did this.

Select all your pieces and open a new canvas same size with a light gray backround and save as ufo. Do not merge the pieces, you may group them if you want.
Leave the original pic open so we can paint the hair there.

The Hair

The hair is all done in mode, you have to use the oil paint as default, size 2 or 3, color selected from the original pic. Always keep the lines flowing with the direction of the hair, and it is a good thing to concentrate a lot of lines togeather to make the color stand out, if you make all the hairs the same distance apart form the others, by the time you smudge them you wont get the highlights, it will all be one big-same-color-smudge! ....snif! Check out below so you can get a better idea of what I mean.

Here are the layers I made (5 layers), I'm showing them to you on a different canvas so you can see in detail how I worked over the pic. The darkest color in the back, the lighter ones in front.

Select the 2 darkest colors and merge as a single object, we will smudge in mode over the original pic. Try to stay within the hairline don't go over the face of hand or the coat etc... neither the backround because the smudge will pick up the other textures and colors as it moves, and we need to move this smudge layer to the other canvas where the figure is.

Go with soft, medium strokes, following the movement of the hair, remember the undo button if you mess up!

Once you're finished, select the smudge and move it to your figure in the other canvas and place it, you will need to erase the unwanted edges.
Check out image below.

Here is the next layer all by itself. Do the same with the smudge in mode as before. Take your time! Once finished, move to the other canvas and place on top of the other smudge.

Here I took the fouth layer and did the smudging. Once finished, move to the other canvas

This is the last and lightest layer, I didn't smudge near the roots because there are no light hairs there, I just folowed the hairs I painted.

Take this too to the new canvas

This is what I mean you have to erase, not all of it, but for example her right cheek has hair on top and that shouldn't be there but on the other hand the hair on her left side near her eye could stay as it is, maybe just erasing a tiny bit if the eybrow got distorted by the smudge. You decide!

Duplicate a layer from the back and resize a bit smaller and send back, that will help prevent any gaps showing through.

The coat seems to me a bit too sharp, select each piece and click once on the Blur -Medium.

Add a bit of shadow here so you can have some depth for the layers of the coat.

Lets change the tone color of the fur coat to a more black and white, more accordingly to the whole image. You will find these atrributes in your EP. Take note of the position of the tiny triangled handles , that is what matters. Do this to all the fur pieces.

Add some less contrast to each piece of fur, just one click on the less contrast button.

I felt that the coat still needed depth so I added some burn with the settings as shown below. Basically to the center of the big piece and edges and the smaller pieces just a bit to the edges.

And there is your Human Figure made with paths and brushes all done by

YOU!!!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!

Go ahead and take your button award below! :)

In my final image I added lighting color light grey aiming to her shoulder and spreaded out a bit!
Thank you so much for giving this tutorial a try. I had so much fun making it and I hope you had fun doing it :))
